The Challenge

Freedom Mobile required a more robust and scalable reporting environment to support data-driven decision-making. The existing setup limited reporting efficiency and did not fully optimise performance across production and development environments.

The organisation’s objectives were threefold:

First, to enhance report management and delivery, providing clearer, more reliable insight into business performance and billing projections.

Second, to optimise the reporting architecture across both PROD and DEV environments, ensuring performance consistency, resilience, and scalability.

Third, to introduce structured, fine-grained monitoring of the Oracle BI stack and supporting infrastructure to reduce operational risk and improve uptime.

In a telecoms environment where billing accuracy and forecasting precision directly impact revenue, any reporting inefficiency or downtime carries significant business risk.

The Solution

DSP-Eclipsys delivered a structured redesign and optimisation of Freedom Mobile’s OBIEE ecosystem.

The foundation of the solution was the configuration of an Oracle VM environment, with optimised virtual machine servers designed to host clustered OBIEE instances for both Production and Development. This architecture introduced multi-node clustering to enhance availability and workload distribution.

A dedicated Repository Database was configured to house the OBIEE cluster, ensuring stable metadata management and improved governance of reporting logic and transformations.

The reporting platform was then migrated and consolidated within OBIEE, including BI Publisher and BI Analytics components. The environment was tuned to improve report execution time, concurrency handling, and overall performance.

To ensure long-term operational visibility, DSP-Eclipsys implemented Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) Cloud Control, providing comprehensive monitoring across:

  • OBIEE clusters

  • Oracle Database

  • Oracle VM infrastructure

This introduced round-the-clock insight into system health, performance thresholds, and availability metrics across both PROD and DEV environments.

The Result

The engagement successfully optimised Freedom Mobile’s OBIEE environment, delivering measurable improvements in performance and reliability.

BI Publisher reports were enhanced to provide deeper insight into billing trajectories and revenue trends. Report execution performance improved, and system stability increased due to the multi-node clustered architecture.

High availability capabilities significantly reduced the risk of unplanned downtime, ensuring continuous access to critical reporting functions.

Through OEM Cloud Control, Freedom Mobile gained fine-grained, real-time monitoring across its Oracle BI stack and virtualised infrastructure, improving operational governance and proactive issue resolution.

Business Outcomes

The project delivered both technical and strategic value.

✅ Enhanced reporting performance enabled more accurate analysis of billing patterns and revenue projections, supporting stronger executive decision-making.

✅ The introduction of clustered OBIEE architecture improved uptime and system resilience, protecting business continuity in a revenue-critical environment.

✅ Improved monitoring reduced operational blind spots, enabling proactive management of performance issues before they could impact users.

✅ By optimising both Production and Development environments, Freedom Mobile strengthened its ability to test, validate, and deploy reporting enhancements efficiently.

✅ With ongoing support under the Bank of Hours model, Freedom Mobile continues to benefit from expert advisory and optimisation services as reporting requirements evolve.
