The Challenge

ASA Alloys was implementing a new ERP system and required a reliable Oracle database environment to ensure the success of the rollout. Given the ERP system’s central role in finance, operations, and supply chain management, performance and stability were business-critical.

The organisation needed to achieve three core objectives:

First, a successful implementation of the Oracle database platform to support the ERP system without disruption to business operations.

Second, improved availability and reliability, ensuring the ERP system remained accessible and performant for users across the business.

Third, a clearly defined and tested Disaster Recovery (DR) strategy to protect against data loss and unplanned downtime.

Without a properly architected Oracle environment and proactive monitoring capability, ASA Alloys risked performance degradation, operational disruption, and exposure to downtime events that could impact production and customer commitments.

The Solution

DSP-Eclipsys designed and deployed a robust Oracle-based infrastructure aligned to ERP workload requirements and industry best practices.

The engagement began with the installation and configuration of a new Oracle Database 12.2 environment on Solaris, tailored specifically to support the ERP system’s performance and transactional demands. Careful configuration ensured optimal resource allocation, stability, and scalability.

To provide visibility and control over the environment, DSP-Eclipsys implemented Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control, enabling proactive monitoring of database health, performance metrics, and system alerts. This introduced structured oversight, allowing potential issues to be identified and resolved before impacting users.

Recognising the importance of business continuity, DSP-Eclipsys also provided Disaster Recovery recommendations and implemented a DR solution aligned with ASA Alloys’ operational requirements. This ensured the ERP system could be restored within defined recovery objectives in the event of an outage.

Following implementation, DSP-Eclipsys continued to provide ongoing expert support, ensuring performance optimisation, system health checks, and advisory guidance as the environment evolved.

The Result

The Oracle environment was successfully deployed, enabling the ERP system to go live on a stable and resilient database platform.

System availability and reliability improved significantly through enterprise-grade Oracle technology combined with proactive monitoring via Enterprise Manager. ASA Alloys gained confidence in the performance and stability of its core operational system.

The Disaster Recovery solution strengthened organisational resilience, ensuring preparedness for unexpected infrastructure or system failures.

The ongoing partnership continues to provide specialist support and operational assurance.

Business Outcomes

The project delivered tangible operational and strategic value to ASA Alloys.

The successful ERP implementation provided a stable foundation for managing manufacturing operations, financial processes, and supply chain activities. With Oracle technology underpinning the system, the organisation benefits from improved transactional performance and reduced operational risk.

Enhanced availability and proactive monitoring reduced the likelihood of unplanned downtime, protecting productivity and customer commitments.

The implemented Disaster Recovery capability significantly improved business continuity posture, reducing risk exposure and supporting compliance requirements.

Through its ongoing Bank of Hours engagement, DSP-Eclipsys acts as a trusted extension of the internal IT function — providing expert guidance, continuous optimisation, and long-term assurance that the ERP platform remains secure, stable, and aligned to business growth.
